adventurous anniversary session for my parents | married 36 years | olympic national park | washington wedding photographer

I have been wanting to do an adventure session for my parents for a while now and when they planned a trip to Seattle, Washington a few weeks after their 36th anniversary I figured this would be the perfect time! We originally planned to do their photos up at Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, but the nearby wildfires smoked out the whole view so we opted for sunset on Rialto Beach instead. It ended up being SO gorgeous. I love the dark sand and the random sea stacks in the distance that make for a perfect Pacific Northwest beach vibe. After a family picnic, I took my parents down the beach to play around, chase seagulls, and be chased by waves. My primary goal for these photos was to capture their true personalities, their love for each other, and a lot of candid photos that feel true to them. Going through these photos made my heart swell - I am already so thankful to have them and I know we'll all cherish them for years. I like to think of my kids looking through them one day :) It was super intimidating to take photos of people so close to me, but it taught me a lot about how I want to approach taking photos of everyone because they feel so accurate. My dad wears his heart on his sleeve and is super affectionate with his words and his touch, while my mom comes off as more shy but once you get to know her you'll learn she's one of the funniest, kindest, and deeply-loving people you'll meet. I love that those aspects of their personalities show in these photos. Thank you for letting me take these photos (and for always supporting me) mom + dad! I love you.
