laurann + matt's intimate wedding | ten peaks ceremony site | crested butte mountain resort | colorado wedding photographer

we are honored to have this mountain top wedding featured in Junebug Weddings, check it out here.

I honestly don't even know where to start with this incredible wedding. I knew Laurann through mutual friends and was so honored when she reached out to me to shoot her + Matt's intimate wedding in Colorado. Pretty quickly into wedding planning these two Texans decided they wanted to prioritize the most important people in their life and have a destination wedding in the mountains. They chose Ten Peaks Venue Site, of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, sight unseen! Laurann fell in love with photos and was not at all disappointed when she finally saw their venue in person. It was absolutely stunning, from the sweeping mountain views behind the alter to the dreamy white tent filled with sparkly lights. It was perfectly gorgeous and romantic.

Everything about their wedding day was so them. Laurann and Matt are some of the most selfless people ever, so their friends and family had such a great time getting to put the focus on the two people that always put others before themselves. Their ceremony was so touching - especially when everyone turned to face the mountains for worship. It was truly beautiful. One of my favorite moments from the day was when we stole them away from the reception for sunset and they danced through the fields completely filled with joy. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen and I still can't get over how amazing the photos turned out. Laurann and Matt - you two are some of the best people we know and I truly feel honored to have celebrated this day with you!

utah road trip elopement | moab adventure wedding photography

When Meaghan first reached out to be about doing an adventure session, she mentioned that she and Fraser would be on a long road trip from British Columbia through a number of states including Washington, Wyoming, Utah, California, and Oregon. After looking through our schedules and considering meeting in Olympic National Park or Glacier National Park, they ended up deciding on Moab, Utah because they loved our desert photos. I didn't mind one bit...we all know Moab is my favorite place! After choosing a spot, she mentioned that she and Fraser were doing this trip as an alternative wedding...they decided to forgo the typical huge wedding party and brought rings along the road so they could exchange vows somewhere private, just the two of them. They decided they still wanted to celebrate the exchange with photos, so they booked a session with us the next day!

After spending the evening with them, from dinner before, to the gorgeous desert session up above Moab, to sitting around afterwards talking and enjoying the warm desert air, I am certain this plan was just right for them! I feel like these photos represent their personalities so well, and the idea of a private vow exchange in the desert the night before was so Meaghan + Fraser. Also - can we talk about how amazing Meaghan's white jumpsuit is?! It was the perfect unconventional "wedding attire" for their perfectly unconventional elopement. We had so much fun getting to know these two and I really hope we get to see them again soon!

From Callen | Climbing El Cap With Jordan Cannon | Yosemite National Park

It was one of those lofty objectives, the kind that lies dormant but is always on the table. I mean, it's The Big One, and pretty much anyone that rock climbs has dreamt of being on El Capitan, especially if they've been lucky enough to visit Yosemite National Park and see it with their own eyes. It's the birthplace of climbing, "the center of the universe." The 3,000 ft face can be a little intimidating, especially for a self taught Texan adventurer...but there I was 2,500 ft off the deck with my good friend Jordan Cannon, cuddled together in our sleeping bags waiting out a snowstorm before pushing to the summit. It was truly an adventure.

I supported Jordan as he free climbed The Freerider. It was a 4 day quest, hauling water, food, and our portaledge into the vertical world of Yosemite. I definitely wasn't aware of what I had agreed to over a phone call a few weeks prior. Jordan, a real dirtbag climber, lives out of his van and makes just enough money working odd jobs to fuel his passion (and his van) to the next climb. He's the real deal no doubt, and he's quite the salesman... "Dude, it's gonna be tight. We're gonna be hanging out on the wall watching Netflix, you'll love it," he claims as I agree to the climb. Seems legit I guess...

We were rained on our first night with only a rain jacket each, down sleeping bags soaked through, and the portaledge life turned out to be a terrifying cot at 1,000ft. Who knew? Over the next 3 days however, something rad happened. I learned to slightly curb fear such that I could perform the tasks at hand. Incessant manual labor was complimented nicely by learning new big wall skills on the spot without an option for retreat. I watched Jordan go straight "Hero Mode" time and time again as he battled his way up pitch after pitch. I was out of my comfort zone and overall stoked on it. It was the greatest challenge of my aspiring roll as an adventure documenter, and we didn't watch a single episode of The Office as implied. 10/10 would climb again.

Wild Sol Retreats | Camping, Yoga, and outdoor adventures in Moab, Utah | Weekend Getaway Inspiration

A few weeks ago some of our Moab friends invited to join them for a retreat in the desert and we honestly had no idea what to expect! With this crew, it could mean anything, but we've always had a good time with them so we decided to head out there for the night. Once we got there we learned that our friend Tiff was launching her retreat business, Wild Sol Retreats, and this was a sort of "test run" that she was throwing for all her buddies to hash out details and see how everything was working. We had so much fun laughing around the campfire, enjoying her delicious home cooked soup + quinoa salad, singing songs,  and of course raging in the desert. The party was definitely the cherry on top of an amazing night filled with dancing, acro yoga, trick-lining, and even some net-throwing (what do we call this?).

In the morning everyone woke up for yoga, coffee, and a mini acro-yoga clinic. It was so relaxing and refreshing to spend time in the desert with our friends, with no cell phone service, just focusing on each other and the place we love! Tiff is so good at organizing activities and helping people experience Moab in a new way,  I would definitely reccomend reaching out to her if you're planning a trip to Moab. Since weddings are pretty much always on my mind, I was thinking this retreat would be perfect for a bachelorette party, or even for an intimate wedding weekend in the desert!

Intimate wedding in Yosemite national park | Glacier Point First look | Portraits at Taft Point | Traveling adventure elopement photographer

I can remember exactly where we were when I received my first e-mail from Milly. It was really long, really sweet, and by the end of it I was pretty much set on working with this amazing person. It honestly made my day and I believe I didn't even wait to get back to a computer to reply - I just typed up an equally long and equally enthusiastic reply from my phone as we drove down the 395 from Lake Tahoe to Bishop. After email details back and forth, we "met" via a phone call - I remember that too, I was sitting in the lodge in Yosemite Valley. She was asking for advice on their Yosemite wedding and I loved getting to discuss details with her while in the park.

She and Thomas hadn't been to Yosemite before, but when they decided to elope somewhere beautiful they both agreed it just felt right. She reached out to me to help choose locations and give them an idea of where to have their ceremony. When they received their permit, we were all hopeful Glacier Point Road would be open in time and with the above average snowfall this year we were pretty much on our toes until a few weeks before the wedding! As soon as I saw on the Yosemite instagram that they had plowed and opened the road, I texted Milly and I'm pretty sure we both did a happy dance across the country.

They invited their closest friends and family to join them for their intimate ceremony at Glacier Point and it truly was so beautiful. Honestly, no man-made wedding decoration could possibly surpass the beauty of a ceremony space flanked with Half Dome and Nevada Falls. It was stunning! Milly looked absolutely amazing in her Grace Loves Lace dress and rocked it all evening, including for a 2 mile hike through snow and mud out to Taft Point for sunset! They bravely quested to the thousand-foot viewpoints and stood together taking in Yosemite Valley as the sun set behind el cap. One of the amazing things about adventure weddings is the amount of time we get to spend getting to know our bride and groom. On "normal" wedding days, things can be so rushed and we don't get a lot of chill time, but with Thomas and Milly's wedding we got to hike 2 miles together which meant a lot of talking and getting to know each other! We had some amazing conversations hiking back with the moonlight and our headlamps to guide us and by the time we made it back to the cars we felt like we had two new friends!
