Jace + Diana's Elopement Day One: Moody Elopement Ceremony in Valdez, Alaska

Thompson Pass Elopement in Valdez, Alaska

From the very first email, Diana and Jace put their full trust in us to create an incredible elopement for them here in Alaska.

When we recommended one of our favorite little towns off the typical path, when we suggested specific locations that have become our favorites after years spending our summers exploring up here, when we told them about our favorite glacier and how worth it the extra driving & two-day elopement would be for the adventure, and even when we changed up the days last minute based on the weather forecast…they were always down. And honestly, it’s so deeply satisfying to reflect on last week & see how all the work, trust, and thought paid off. What a week we had together!

Sometimes people are surprised to learn that many of our couples choose to elope in places they’ve never been before. People wonder why they trust us, their photographers, to recommend their specific wedding locations. A big part of that is simply because we spend so much time in the places where we book; we’ve explored around Alaska for a significant portion of every summer for four years now, we live in the Utah desert and spend most of our free time hiking, flying, climbing, and getting to know places very few people see as well as finding the quiet corners & times in understandably popular areas like the National Parks. We rarely book in places we haven’t been because we want to be confident in our ability to suggest locations, help with planning, and have a long list of audibles if anything comes up (we’re always at the mercy of Mother Nature!).

Sometimes our couples choose a specific area or place because it means a lot to them or they have a special memory there, but a lot of the time our couples want their wedding to be somewhere new because that’s when they’ve always felt most alive: exploring somewhere new together. They often choose places we recommend or places they’re drawn to within our travel schedule because they love the idea of establishing a new connection to a place that will forever be the place they got married. I know for Callen and I, most of our favorite memories have been the first time finding a place we fall completely in love with, and I love that so many of our couples choose that feeling (and trust us to recommend a place we know they’ll love!) for their elopement.

There are few things more satisfying than hearing from a couple after their wedding that they get it now…like just the other day when Diana texted me she’s already missing Alaska deeply & she knows why we’re so attached to it 🥰 Bringing someone else into the magic of a place we’ve fallen in love with is truly one of the most satisfying elements of our job, and it’s why we’ve continually reduced the places we book to just the ones we can’t imagine life without. We’ve always believed in quality over quantity; with our locations, our bookings, & everything we do 💙
