Frequently Asked Questions

  • Would you believe me if I said a majority of our couples worry about this? Don’t worry. We don’t expect you to be professional models. First of all, we’ll take some time to get to know you and probably hike for at least a few minutes before pulling up the cameras. When we do start taking photos, the process is extremely chill.

We’ll give you easy instructions, asking you to move and interact together in ways that allow us to capture candid moments in a flattering style. We give prompts and directions that include movements, words, and feelings. During photo sessions, you'll sometimes forget we're right there.

When viewing your finished photos, you'll like think something like "Woah, I didn't realize we could look so rad/adorable/adventurous/playful on camera." At least, this has been our experience so far!

  • Our editing style is inspired by pushed film, which has a punchy, contrasty vibe without sacrificing true colors, accurate skin tones, or overall cleanliness of an image. We pride ourselves in producing images that will not look "dated" in 5, 10, or 50 years.

We are not fans of filters or major color changes because we believe you chose your location based on it's beauty and it'd be a disservice to change that look drastically!

  • We spend most of the year living in Moab, Utah and then go to Alaska every summer from June-September. These are our favorite months in these places and we believe they’re the best months for adventure elopements there as well! We also typically take a roadtrip in the spring and fall, so be sure to keep an eye on our Instagram for those locations as they change each year.

  • In short, an adventure wedding is an intentionally-planned wedding day, in an epic destination, with a minimalist guest list, and an emphasis on experiences over things. Of course, definitions of this will vary, but we use the terms interchangeably; usually referring to a wedding with 0-5 guests as an “elopement” and a wedding with up to 25 guests as an “intimate wedding.” Both of which are adventure weddings!

  • It might seem confusing at first, but we’ve found that the adventure wedding experience is best when we spend at least six hours with our couples. If you’ll have over five guests, we reccomend at least eight hours so we have plenty of time to enjoy the day with your guests and still have some adventure (whether that’s a hike, a sunrise first look, an excursion, a flight tour, or something else rad) focused on just the two of you.

Similarly, for intimate weddings with over 15 guests, we highly reccomend at least a two-day booking so you get quality time with your guests and together. A majority of our couples book either eight hours or two days, depending on their guest count and location.

  • Another common concern, but no worries, this is not a hours-long photo shoot. During that time, we’ll be hiking, chatting, exploring, eating, making fun memories, and basically having the best double date ever. A lot of our couples’ favorite photos were taking at times they didn’t even really realize or think about us taking photos. It’s very chill. But of course, we also spend time dedicated to photos, especially around sunrise and sunset or in really rad spots (but we promise those times will be fun too).

  • Because the number of photos delivered can vary based on different timelines, locations, activities, and so on, we don’t have a specific amount we deliver, but it is typically around 30-50 photos per hour booked. We usually shoot thousands (yes.) and then go through and pick out the very best to edit and put together a gorgeous gallery just for you! We are always happy to send over examples of full galleries if you’re curious.

  • Every single couple that works with us receives: an extremely thorough guide sent over after they book that answers every question they didn’t know they had, extensive planning advice from us within a client portal, a custom timeline, vendor recommendations, location-specific excursion/adventure recommendations, an incredible wedding day experience (obvi), and a gallery of high-res digital photos with printing rights (and easy printing services straight from said gallery) that can be shared with your best friend, aunt lucy, mom, grandma, and whoever else might want to see, download, and print your wedding photos.

  • While we are not officially wedding planners, we have found that a lot of our couples (especially those with fewer than 10 guests) do not need a planner because of how involved we are in helping. While every wedding varies and it would be impossible to list out every task we’ve helped couples with, our expertise is invaluable and available to every one of our couples.

We are here to help with everything from specific permitting, location selection, location scouting, vendor recommendations, timeline creation, picking out a dress + suit, picking shoes, adventure ideas, travel advice, choosing lodging, advice on how to tell your family you’re eloping, zipping your dress, tying your bowtie, keeping your dog company while you change…the list is literally endless.

The only main things we do not offer are booking anything on your behalf (such as lodging, vendors, etc), or official guiding (see next question).

  • So, the word “guide” has become a bit of a buzzword in the adventure wedding photography world. While we absolutely do guide you through this process, and guide you through eloping, and even typically show you around a location, we do not work as certified outdoor guides. We value official guides very highly and we take our job, and outdoor activities, much too seriously to include official guiding in our job description.

While we are absolutely comfortable hiking with couples in remote locations (and we carry safety gear such as an InReach Satellite Phone at all times); for any activities requiring a harness, technical rope work, above-moderate scrambling or rafting, extreme off-roading, parachuting, rappelling, private flights, or the like, we require that our couple work with a local, certified outdoor guide.

We are always happy to reccomend guides and support the local community, and ensure we are all upholding a high standard of safety for everyone involved.

  • We book weddings up to a year in advance, most typically 6-10 months before the wedding date. We book adventure sessions up to three months in advance, based on availability around our wedding schedule. That being said, we have booked elopements two weeks in advance and pulled off an amazing wedding day! It is possible, so no matter how “last minute” we would love to hear from you! If you’re planning to get married in over a year, we recommend reaching out to get on our waitlist so you have access to new dates before anyone else!

  • Adventure Sessions are two hour photo sessions most typically used for engagements, anniversaries, or post-wedding portrait sessions. We pick one or two close locations and hike up to two miles together. Here are some example blog posts (which contain select photos, not full galleries) of past adventure sessions: Courtney + Winslow in Bryce Canyon | Cat + Shaw in Grand Teton | Rachel + Ryan in Monument Valley. Note, we do not book adventure session packages as elopements — your wedding day deserves more time and planning than that!
