Hi buddies! We’re Abbi & Callen (& Charlie) Hearne.

We’re adventurers, travelers, outdoor enthusiasts (& advocates!), and elopement photographers. Over the past five+ years of living on the road (#trailerlife, #vanlife, and #camperlife) and now having a home in our favorite place (Moab, Utah), we’ve built our lives around adventure. We live for those long, epic days where you get back and your feet hurt and your body is sore, but your stoke is through the roof. Days like this. And this.

We believe your wedding day can be your best adventure yet, whether its just the two of you (and us duh!) or with a little group of your closest people. Eloping isn’t just for Vegas anymore, and weddings aren’t just for ballrooms. We work with couples to plan out a day that’s true to them, makes them feel small in some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth, and reflects a love that refuses to be contained within four walls.

We’ve completely built our life around adventures in beautiful places, and one of our greatest joys is sharing the adventure with our couples. We lived on the road full time for a few years and then fell in love with a little house in the desert of Moab, Utah; our favorite place throughout all of our travels. We still spend about half of the year living on the road, traveling to Alaska for the summer, and exploring just about anywhere for more mountains, deserts, and glaciers.

We use our extensive experience and expertise in the outdoors to plan unforgettable custom elopement days for every couple. We usually work with couples to plan everything from their elopement location down to the vendors they’ll work with and the timeline of the day(s) we’ll spend together. We always shoot together and we have kept things intentionally small, working with a limited amount of couples each year such that we can bring our full value to every single planning email, phone call, and of course, elopement day!

2021 TRAVEL SCHEDULE: Callen and I sat down today and finalized our 2021 travel schedule! We’re so stoked to explore some new places, go back to old favorites, and spend a lot of glorious time in Moab, our home + our favorite place in the world! I am especially psyched to finally see Greenland next summer!! Obviously, this is all covid-willing (what a time to be alive 😐) but we are hoping for the best :) - January: New Zealand South Island February: Yosemite NP March-April: Moab + SE Utah May: Amangiri + Zion + Lake Powell June: Redwoods NP + NorCal July: Zermatt, Chamonix, Iceland, Greenland August: Alaska September-December: Moab, Utah NPs, Northern AZ - We’re psyched! I remember when I was still photographing bigger weddings in Texas, I would always try to work 10 minutes of alone time for the couple into their schedule. It was a hard thing to do. When your timeline requires everything to run minute-by-minute, scheduling a few minutes alone is a tough thing to prioritize. Planners were often annoyed I wanted that in the timeline at all, because it would cut into the important things like cocktail hour or special dances or portraits. But our couples always appreciated it, they’d mention it was the only time they really got to talk or reflect on the day. We’ve all heard the classic trope that your wedding day just flies by and you barely remember anything. - That’s why I love elopements. That’s why we have a minimum of 6 hours when people book with us. Because we want the whole day to be an amazing memory, not a blur. We want plenty of moments to let our couple walk ahead and spend time just the two of them in the incredible pl
I noticed today that this is my 1,000th post on this account! I had a few ideas for what to do to celebrate it, but decided that the best way would be an ode to this incredible job, and the wonderful places it has taken us. It’s a wild journey to think back on, and I sometimes can’t even believe where we are now because of it. - Five years ago this month, we photographed our first wedding together. I second shot with a photographer throughout college, had just graduated, and this gig was sort of a trial run. I brought Callen as my second and he dialed in how to use the camera the week before. We loved every minute of that first wedding, and I spent the next year building a little business. So much has happened since then; we eventually switched from Abbi Hearne Photography to The Hearnes and hit the road full time, we slowly transitioned our business from big venue weddings in Texas to small weddings + elopements in deserts and mountains and glaciers and all of our favorite

That feeling when the entire wedding planning process was full of closures, a world-wide pandemic, uncertainty, and constantly changing plans...but then the sun came up from behind the mountains and it was finally their elopement day 💃🏻✨ Not as we originally planned, but somehow even better because it was so uniquely them. I absolutely love seeing the joy in these photos because we remember the difficulty of getting to this moment. The phone calls and texts and so much unknowing. It all worked out in the end...and I’m so thankful these two trusted us through it all!!
Our best friends bought a house in the desert! Sadly, it wasn’t our same desert but I’ll forgive them because now we have more reason to start regularly visiting Joshua Tree again 😉 And Zion is halfway between the two of us, so things could be worse 😜 - Our quick trip to California for work at the beginning of this month was a bit stressful with closures, weird travel logistics, and last-minute schedule changes, but we got to swing by and see these two in their new home, share a meal in the empty living room just like they did with us when we moved into ours last year, and explore their little town for a day before we made our way back to Utah. We got to chat about the weird feelings that come from giving up full-time road life, the oddly freeing feeling of having a place for roots, the unknown and the big dreams and the excitement of a place to call their own. Schadell + Jamaal standing on the edge of the world soaking in the endless desert 🏜 - Something a lot of photographers ask me about is posing our couples, specifically how we get them to look so comfortable in our photos. We have some go-to cues to direct people, but I really think the biggest thing is the whole vibe of the session. We’re always trying to photograph how a couple truly acts together, how they’d explore a space and soak in those moments with each other if we remove all distractions and they just focus on connection. Usually one of my favorite “poses” is having them turn toward the landscape and just soak it in. I love giving them a few minutes to do this usually at the beginning and near the end of the session, I like to think it’s the moment they’ll remember when thinking through our time together. We never want their memories to be rushing from one spot to the next, or being overly-directed for “the shot.” We know we&rsq
Summer here in Moab is not for the faint of heart 🏜🔥 We’re usually in Yosemite this month, and then headed to Alaska shortly after with plans to stay until the lower 48 cools back down. Last year, we didn’t see a day over 85, and that “high” was only while driving from one temperate mountain area to another! We both grew up in Texas where 90s/100s are normal for at least half of the year but living on the road with a dog makes anything over 80 pretty difficult! And the good thing is, Moab is super dry so it’s always nicer in the shade and cools down as soon as the sun starts to dip. - When we planned this year, we decided to be in Moab in July and see what the summer scene was like...but then C-19 hit and our June season in California was only a week, so here we are, mid-June already roasting and looking forward to Alaska in August 😜 But I will say, we’ve been getting more into summer activities like floating the river and making sure to hike in t
When there are more dogs than people, you know we’re all in for a good time! (last four photos taken by our new intern Charlie 🐕). This day with Jessica and Tom was so much fun. They left the locations up to us so we picked an easy hike through a creek specifically for the dogs and then a gorgeous sunset spot with views of Moab’s best desert towers. They showed up with our favorite drinks, we brought the pizza, and we all had a great time hiking, taking photos, and pretty much having the best double date (plus 4 dogs) ever! - People always joke about Charlie taking photos with us, so we thought it would be funny to strap the GoPro on him and see his perspective 😜 we set it to take a photo every 5 seconds and well, he’s not quite up to par with us yet, but his ability to capture the (dog) subjects was interesting...note in the last ~portrait~ that he has a stick in his mouth 😂 anyway, quarantine might have made us go a little crazy but in all seriousness, we had suc
