2019 Gift Guide for Outdoors Lovers + Advocates

2019 Gift Guide for Outdoors Lovers + Advocates

Patagonia-Adventure-Photography-Gift-Guide

I’m going to be honest, I went back and forth a lot on making a gift guide this year. Anytime I’ve done something like this in the past, people have been stoked and I’ve loved supporting artists and businesses I stand behind, but I feel weird feeding the commercial machine of “buy buy buy.” SO, here’s my preface:

  • Don’t buy anything you don’t need.

  • Don’t feel like you HAVE to buy things this year (or ever) because the internet told you to.

  • Handmade gifts are amazing. Consider making something for your loved ones, or repurposing something, recycling something, or buying used/thrifting when possible. There is enough stuff in the world for all of us!

  • Consider giving someone an experience vs a material thing (more ideas below!)

  • If you do want to buy new, consider supporting small businesses. Consider putting more money toward one high-quality gift vs the temptation of multiple cheap gifts. Think about how long the gift will be used. Is it for just the moment, or for years, or a lifetime?

  • Overall, know that the people in your life likely love you much more than a gift could ever say, and vice versa. I really don’t want this blog to be another “10 things you must buy” vibe, so if you ever feel stressed or upset while looking through it, close this window and go outside :)

When possible, I’ll be sure to include prices and note current sales! I am doing my best to include a wide range of prices so this is helpful for every budget. Also, lastly, this list is primarily supporting companies and small businesses I know personally. I am not taking suggestions at this time, as this is intended to be short and relevant. Enjoy!

If you want something tangible to wrap up, or a cool shop for a gift card, here are some small businesses, artists, and companies I love! Remember to wrap gifts with repurposed materials — packing paper, newspaper, favorite photos from a magazine, pieces of an old pretty calendar, old cloth, the possibilities are endless! There is no need to purchase paper for the purpose of throwing it away — you definitely have something on hand you can use!

Rhiannon Klee, Watercolor Landscape Artist

Rhi paints incredible landscapes, you might have seen her Patagonia painting in our house before! Her prints start at $35 and are absolutely stunning. My favorite is obviously our Patagonia print but I really love this one of El Cap and this one of the Tetons too!

Bri Bol, Handmade Jewelry and Wall Art

Bri hand makes the most beautiful earrings starting at $56. I used to never wear anything more than studs, but her earrings are so lightweight and tend to match everything, I love them so much! They elevate any outfit and make me feel put together in leggings and a loose tee, or in a fancy dress ;) I have these and frequently wear them without the dangles (just the gold hoops) when I want a simple look, but I especially love these and these too!

Wylder Goods, Clothing and Home Goods

Wylder Goods is a B-Corp company with a huge focus on outdoor advocacy and community. Owned and operated by women, they are SO much more than a marketplace! I love knowing I can trust the companies and products they work with and their curated products are always home runs for me. My all-time favorite Wylder product is my Roamer-Alls (I have both colors). They also have cute prints, like this one and cool accessories — I literally have this hat on the way to my house right now.

Rachel Pohl, Landscape Paintings and Products

Rachel is such an amazing example of a woman who absolutely crushes the business side of things and stays true to her art! I love her work so much, and she’s made a lot of amazing products so even if an original painting is out of your budget, you can have a piece of her art in a different way. Rachel has high quality stickers starting at $3.95, as well as hats, wallets, and beautiful prints. I am completely obsessed with this print!

Access Fund Store, Climber Goods and Books

Did you know Access Fund has a store? If you want to support Access Fund but still want something tangible to give, they have some rad gifts for the climber in your life! This large mug is hilarious, and I love this little Piton Bottle Opener that would make a great gift for a van lifer!

The Hearnes Print Shop, Landscape Photo Prints and Canvases

Of course I have to plug our own printshop! We have a huge variety of landscapes all over the world starting at just $15, and up to options for large scale prints and canvases. You can get 10% off in the shop by sharing about it in your Instagram story (be sure to tag me @abbihearne so I can send you your code!).

EXPERIENCES

While I won’t include a lot of specific links for this gift idea because it’s so dependent on location, I will include a few ideas and advice for researching them specifically! If you know a friend is going on a trip somewhere, or they live in a place that might offer one of these things, these ideas could be a gift they remember forever! Because we live in Moab, I’ll include a few ideas for if you know someone is near Moab or has a trip here coming up (or maybe needs the positive peer pressure to come out to the desert!) but as I mentioned, a lot of these experiences can be found elsewhere, so get creative and plan accordingly!

Tandem BASE Jump in Moab:

To purchase a BASE jump as a gift for someone else, call or text Andy directly at 415.370.4515

$1,000 per jump (includes tour, guided hike, transport to location, etc), currently 50% off!

Helicopter Tour in Moab:

Prices vary starting at $120 per person

Canyoneering Tour in Moab:

Prices vary starting at $99 per person

Spa Treatment in Moab:

Prices vary, massages starting at $55 per person

Access Fund Membership or Donation:

While this isn’t technically an experience, if you know a climber or outdoors lover I highly reccomend donating to Access Fund in their name! This can be as small as a $5 donation instead of a hallmark card, or a larger donation as a gift.
