whimsical garden party wedding // the union on eighth // georgetown, texas

I first met Allie in a psychology class in college. Being an art student, this was one of the very few classes I took that had hundreds of students so I was relieved when I spotted a girl with a Younglife sticker on her water bottle! We quickly became friends, exchanging notes and rides home. At the time, I was planning our own wedding and just getting into professional photography and I remember Allie joking that I would shoot her and Charlie's wedding one day! I told her no way - that I loved second shooting weddings, but I'd never want to be a lead photographer (Ha! JB was right - never say never).

Allie and Charlie dated long distance through college. It was hard for them, knowing they'd get married at the end of it but having to live states away for years first. They wrote their own wedding vows and they laughed and cried through them, but there was a special moment when during Charlie's, he promised her "no more long distance" and man. That got me. The look in her eyes and the sincerity in his voice when he made that promise to her was out of this world. Weddings are really fun, sometimes stressful, sometimes eventful in ways you don't want them to be, but that moment when two imperfect people hold hands, lock eyes and say "I'm in for the duration" through sickness and health and richer and poorer, that moment is devine. It's the reason we love this job. Allie and Charlie, you two are amazing people and you're surrounded by an amazing community. We're thankful to have been present for this wonderful day!

hill country garden wedding // sisterdale, texas

The moment we pulled up to Savannah and Mitchell's wedding venue in Sisterdale, Texas I think I let out a little squeal. The entire venue is covered in massive, gorgeous oak trees all the way down to the perfectly babbling brook behind the ceremony site. Texas has endured a ton of rain recently and now that it's finally held off, everything is so GREEN. Just when I thought it couldn't get better, I stepped inside the adorable old house that the girls were getting ready in and my detail-loving heart did a happy dance! Everything was styled to antique perfection from the beautiful arm-chairs to the patterned wallpaper. It was dreamy!

Of course, none of these pretty details could compare to the amount of love and support that was surrounding Savannah and Mitchell. Their families and friends loved on them all day long and it was truly special to play a part in their wedding! I'm a pretty emotional person and I can always count on getting choked up during ceremonies, but sometimes the tears catch me in little moments too, like when Savannah's bridesmaids and her momma laid hands on her before the ceremony to pray for her marriage. There are a lot of things I love about this job, but being invited into the most dear and divine moments of people's wedding days pretty much tops the list. I am so thankful to have been a part of this wonderful day and for the new friends we've made because of it!

we woke up like this // post-wedding portraits in the forest

You might recognize these two from their wedding I posted last week, but this gorgeous post-wedding shoot was such a dream! When Danielle first came to me with the idea of a day-after wedding shoot, I couldn’t have been more excited. She knew her wedding day would be fast-paced and formal, so she wanted to do something different to make sure she and Andrew would end up with portraits that they felt truly represented them in a raw, natural way. As a husband and wife photography team, we tend to grow unique friendships with our wedding couples and Danielle and Andrew were no different. Two days after their beautiful church wedding, they has us over for dinner in their new abode before donning their wedding clothes (adding in his worn flannel and her favorite Moccasins) for an adventurous hike through the nearby state forest.

This shoot really had me thinking about a lot of couples that feel torn between the idea of a low-key intimate ceremony in the mountains (or somewhere else beautiful) and a special party that they can include their entire community in. Both are so amazing and, ultimately, ending up married is what truly matters, but I think this type of shoot is a great option for couples who have chosen to go the big-wedding route but still want some intimate, outdoorsy portraits!  Danielle and Andrew didn't go on a honeymoon immediately after their wedding (they're going in August!), so we were able to shoot two days later with her flower crown just slightly wilted, but I could see this being a special shoot to do at any point in a couple's marriage - be it two days or two years later!

This session was everything they hoped it would be. Raw, natural, comfortable and real. We all had a blast chasing light through the forest and they absolutely loved spending this sweet time staring in to each other’s eyes (and kissing - a lot!) with the anticipation and stress of planning a wedding behind them.

danielle + andrew // the woodlands, texas wedding

When Danielle's mom first contacted me almost a year ago to hide out and shoot Andrew's proposal, I had no idea what I was getting myself into (and I mean that in the BEST way possible). I had known her and her family before from church, but I certainly did not forsee how much this family and this amazing couple would love us, reach out to us, and fully engulf us throughout this past year. Each lunch date, grocery store parking lot meet-up, run-in at church, text exchange and all the in-between left me feeling encouraged and so excited for their wedding day.

At their rehearsal dinner, we quickly learned that this is just how the Rogers (and the Smiths!) are. They love people really really well. In fact, as person after person stood up to toast, the common theme was Danielle's ablility to skip small talk and make a three hour conversation feel like five minutes, and Andrew's unyielding love for the Lord and for his now WIFE. We found ourselves sitting in the car after their rehearsal dinner feeling so thankful to have been a part of such a special evening and so thankful to get to play such an intimate role in their wedding day.

There are a lot of things to remember about your own wedding day, from gorgeous flowers to delicious food (and MAN that food was delicious!!), but I'm certain the thing Danielle and Andrew will remember most was the huge outpouring of love they received from their community. From the bridesmaid's prayers over Danielle moments before walking down the aisle, to the dear friends Facetiming the ceremony all the way from China (technology is amazing y'all), to her father's loving and tearful speech at the reception (let's be honest, there wasn't a dry eye in the room), Danielle and Andrew are so clearly loved by everyone that has known them. It's moments like this that Callen and I are floored by how amazing our job is! As you look through these gorgeous photos (can I get a HALLELUJAH for perfect flower crowns?), know that this couple is a picture of real love. Although I probably don't even need to say that because when you see the way Andrew looked at Danielle as she walked down the aisle, you'll KNOW.

colleen + jarod

houston, texas garden wedding

I want to start by saying Colleen and Jarod are some of the most kind, compassionate people I have ever met. I absolutely loved working with Colleen from our first lunch date, to their engagement session, to their wedding day! She had a specific vision for their wedding, and she chose us because she felt we would capture that vision well! While things didn't quite go exactly as planned on her wedding day, Colleen handled each bump in the road (or in her case - each boom of thunder and inch of rain) with grace.

The day started beautiful and sunny, but as Houstonians have learned, May weather can turn in an instant. About halfway through the guys' getting ready photos, we noticed the wind picking up outside, which was quickly followed by lightning. By the time we made it back to Hotel Granduca, where the girls were getting ready, the rain was coming down and we were a little worried we'd get caught in a flood (#houstonprobs). Luckily, Colleen's gorgeous venue (Gardens of River Oaks) had a beautiful green house that her amazing planner/florist (Lauren Burnham of Vintage Indulgence) converted to a ceremony space! It turned out absolutely beautiful and the rain created an extremely romantic atmosphere.

While the weather was not ideal, the moment Colleen arrived at the top of the aisle and her eyes met Jarod's, you could almost see the worry melt away as their love filled the room! These two love each other deeply, and are so loved by their friends and family. It's moments like this that I find myself tearing up at weddings - when nothing else matters because two amazing people are committing their lives to one another. We feel so honored to have been a part of this special day, and we feel that these photos truly capture the love, excitement, and beauty that filled that little glass green house to the brim!
