zombie bachelorette party + farm-to-table rehearsal dinner // austin, texas wedding photographer

I always love when clients do things a little differently and ask me to be a part of it. When we first started talking with Hunter and Michael about doing their wedding photography, Hunter asked me if I'd consider shooting her Zombie-themed bachelorette party in Downtown Austin the Friday before their Sunday wedding instead of the bridal session that was included in their package. I was so psyched! She explained that people were traveling from all over for their wedding and they really wanted to honor family all weekend long, so this wouldn't be a typical bachelorette party. They decided to start the evening at some food trucks in South Austin and encourage everyone to dress up in costume - especially the kiddos! It was easy to find their crew in the food truck park with their green skin, fake blood, and my favorite - Hunter's own version of a Zombie Bride! She is unbelievably creative (just wait until you see their wedding details!) and ended up making a gorgeous two-piece dress from a goodwill skirt and a top her sister wore at her own wedding. Add in flawless zombie make-up and some temporary scar tattoos and she was the most stunning Zombie Bride I've ever seen!

The following evening, Hunter and Michael had us shoot photos of their rehearsal dinner at Eden East, a perfectly-Austin little farm-to-table outdoor restaurant. I couldn't get over how perfectly styled and dreamy it was with the huge trees draped in glowy bulb lights, festive pumpkins, and simple wooden tables with succulents and fall flowers as decor. Once again, Hunter was wearing a gorgeous two-piece gown that was originally her mother's wedding dress, modified to fit her edgy style. Once again, Hunter and Michael's priorities had family first, and it was obvious everyone at the dinner felt the love. We've only had the opportunity to shoot a few rehearsal dinners, but much like weddings, we find ourselves being so thankful that we get to witness such an intimate, important evening with other people we wouldn't know without this job. I found myself tearing up as her mother spoke about how wonderfully Michael loves Hunter. It was amazing to witness the bond between their two families, the deep love Hunter has for her sister and for her nephews, and simply the way Michael looks at her (I mean look at the photo near the bottom of this post of him watching her speak!!). Sometimes I can't believe I get to do this job, to capture such important moments for people, and I definitely found myself feeling that way throughout their entire wedding weekend. Be sure to keep an eye out next week for their wedding blog - you won't want to miss it!

griffith house wedding // orange county wedding photography

Do you remember this gorgeous Joshua Tree National Park engagement session we shot earlier this year? Well we ended up having so much fun together that they invited us back out to California for their dreamy wedding at the Griffith House in Anaheim! We have been looking forward to this wedding all year, and my anticipation grew as the bride's talented sister, Priscilla of Yours Truly Calligraphy, began posting previews of the amazing details she was working on! It was so fun to reunite with them and meet all of their dearest friends and wonderful family.

Eunice and Wilson have such a strong love for each other and their ceremony was the perfect representation of that. They are so clearly loved by their friends and family, and they did an amazing job of including everyone involved. We had so much fun getting to know their community of friends and partying with them well into the night. We are so thankful to know these amazing people and can't wait to see them again next time we're in the southern California area!

Also - super exciting, HuffPost Weddings featured a photo from their engagement session as #4 on their "29 National Park Engagement Photos That Are Nothing Short Of Majestic" post earlier this week! I can't help but completely agree :)

whimsical riverside wedding in new braunfels, texas

I mean, where do I even begin with Katie + Rayan's gorgeous, intimate, outdoorsy wedding? I'll start with the happy dance I did when Katie told me they were going to be kayaking away for their send-off, and another happy dance when she showed me the venue a few months before the wedding and said she wanted to take portraits IN the river, and yet another when she + Rayan explained their love for nature and the outdoors and that they wanted the wedding to highlight their love of God and his creation. Dream couple! We had so much fun with them at their engagement session back in January that we were really looking forward to their wedding day.

Callen actually shot video for their wedding (his first wedding video! We're considering adding this to our business!) so I had my good friend Elizabeth Jones (remember her?) join us as our second shooter. Callen had so much fun shooting and editing this video! We're thankful for friends like Katie + Rayan to push our creative limits and insist on being Callen's first videography clients! Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to watch what he made.

Considering how focused on the outdoors they were, you'd think Katie would've been bummed out when it started POURING rain during their first look (and kept raining until the ceremony!) but Katie, quite literally, chose to stay positive and dance in the rain! They improvised and moved the ceremony inside, but the large windows still allowed for a gorgeous outdoor backdrop and thankfully the rain let up enough for outdoor portraits and festivities following the ceremony! So, let's just say that when Katie told me she wanted photos in the river, I pictured her lifting her dress and sticking her feet in. Well, never one to be shy, Katie went for it and let her dress flow in the water!! Photographer's dream. The water was so refreshing and we truly had a blast getting creative with their portraits! Katie and Rayan, you two have been such a joy to work with. I would be sad that your wedding is over, but I know we'll spend time together in the future and I'm sure we'll run in to each other on numerous adventures - be it in Canada, Texas, or the Middle East!

romantic country club wedding // texas wedding photographer

One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer - especially with Callen being my second shooter - is the way our clients go from being strangers in a coffee shop to dear friends. When Kelley and I first met up, we had a few mutual friends and had both gone to UT, but we were a few years apart and our paths never crossed. We instantly connected and the conversation became less about services and more about life in general. When it came time for their engagement shoot, I was so excited for all four of us spend time together! Sure enough, it felt less like work and more like a double date. Between dancing in the pretty light and sweet moments, we chatted about life and marriage and our friendship grew. By the time I met Kelley for her bridal portraits it felt like seeing an old friend and we had a great evening following the sunlight around Rice University with her mom and sister.

Needless to say, we were so excited going in to their wedding day! We had grown to love them and they had grown to trust us and the dynamic of the day reflected that so well. We loved spending time with their friends and family while getting ready! We were thrilled to see their engagement photos adorning the reception space and a beautiful print from her bridals at the entrance and we received so many heartfelt compliments from guests about their previous sessions. James and Kelley are surrounded with an amazing community and so much love, it was truly amazing to witness! Their ceremony was the sweetest reflection of them as a couple and their deep relationship with God. We had so much fun at their reception and stayed throughoughly entertained by the amazing dancing skills their guests brought to the floor! We left that evening feeling refreshed and excited for this new marriage, new friendship, and this amazing job we get to do! Kelley and James, you two are a huge blessing to us and we're to thankful to have been a part of your day!

Houston, Texas bridal session // Rice University

James and Kelley got married on Saturday so I can finally share Kelley's gorgeous bridal session we shot a few weeks ago! Bridal sessions are always so sweet. They are a great time for my brides to talk wedding details and get more comfortable in front of the camera. I love that going into their wedding day, I've already shot one session with Kelley + James (their engagements, here!) and one with just Kelley, so we are so comfortable together and they already know what to expect from me.

Kelley brought her mom and sister to this session so I had plenty of help with dress fluffing and veil throwing (how do you think we get those amazing shots of the veil flying behind her?), not to mention plenty of laughs and fun getting to know each other. This was my second time being on Rice campus, but it's beauty still blew me away! I love the mix of bold, gorgeous architecture and huge oak trees. It was such a dreamy evening!
