central coast wedding photographers // higuera ranch, san luis obispo, california

We had such a blast shooting Dani + Joey's wedding in San Luis Obispo, California! In fact, we enjoyed spending the entire weekend with them, from their rehearsal dinner on Friday, their wedding Saturday, brunch Sunday, and their post-wedding adventure session on Monday at Montana de Oro State Park! They got married at Higuera Ranch, a gorgeous venue nestled in the huge rolling hills just outside of SLO. California has been getting a ton of rain, so the hills were amazingly green and lush. One unique thing about their wedding was they stayed in guest houses on the venue property and invited family and friends to camp out the whole weekend, so they got to spend a lot more time with their bridal party, family, and guests than a typical wedding! We pulled our camper up in some trees on the property as well and loved how relaxed and laid-back everything felt.

On their wedding day, Dani was so full of joy as everything came together perfectly for a sweet, intimate first look, their stunning ceremony, and fun-filled reception! One of our favorite moments from the day was immediately after the ceremony ended, we all hopped in a golf cart and Joey drove us to the top of one of the hills to take some portraits as the sunset. Whether couples do a first look or not, we always love to whisk them away for a few private moments right after their ceremony to take it all in before joining the reception! As a photographer, this is typically our last chance for posed, creative photos and it ends up being such a sweet time to spend with our bride and groom. Their reception was an awesome party and they enjoyed it to the very end, topped off with an amazing sparkler exit! We had so much fun shooting their wedding and are so thankful they invited us to join them on the central coast! Be sure you check out their post-wedding adventure session at Montana de Oro State Park too!

intimate wedding in big basin redwood state park // california elopement photography

When Seleney and Diego first reached out to me about photographing their elopement in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, I thought I might be dreaming. They explained that they had been planning a big wedding but after dating for over nine years and finally being engaged, they realized they just wanted to skip the wedding planning and be married! Seleney is a park ranger in California and had always dreamed of getting married in a forest, so their intimate wedding in the Redwoods was the obvious choice! When she mentioned that the only people joining us would be their two best friends from childhood, I must admit we got a little nervous! We wouldn't be meeting them face-to-face until their wedding day, and we'd make up 1/3 of the population! That's a lot of trust :) Thankfully (and not surprisingly) we all got along so well that Callen and I felt like part of the wedding party.  Plus, all three girls were wearing the same boots in different colors by coincidence, so I think it was meant to be ;)

Seleney and Diego picked a spot about a mile into the forest. We had the hike out there to talk and get to know each other, and I loved seeing their faces light up when we got to their little grove of trees. They set up a small tent together while Callen and I took photos of their gorgeous details - her bouquet and flower crown, corsages for the men, a bracelet for her best friend and officiant, and a hair comb for me, all made out of live succulents! She even gifted us small pots and dirt so we could re-plant them after the wedding. Her Free People dress was gorgeous, it looked like it was made specifically for a bohemian forest bride! Their first look was touching and emotional, and despite spending the day together, Diego was still blown away seeing Seleney in her dress (no surprise there!). They were so ready to be married and since it was just the six of us, they didn't have to wait on a schedule!

We picked a spot with a big tree as their alter and they got started. They read vows to each other and we all held back tears as they proclaimed their love and commitment with the redwoods as their witness. It was extremely sweet and we felt honored to be present for something so sacred. It was definitely one of those "I can't believe this is my job" moments. Once they sealed it with a kiss, it was party time! And by party time, I mean we got to hike around the forest taking photos and popping champagne...it was a blast! We splashed through mud, climbed on trees, and even found a pocket of California's best golden sunlight streaming through the forest. It was an absolute dream. They ended their wedding day back at the campsite with a campfire, boxed wine (heck yeah), and some delicious food. It was perfectly relaxed, intimate, and so incredibly sweet. Callen and I feel like we've made four new friends and are incredibly thankful to have been involved in such a special day!

Best of 2016 // Weddings, Portraits, Engagements, Anniversaries, Couples in Love! // Western US Adventure Wedding + Elopement Photographer

Joshua Tree National Park couple session // california adventure wedding photographer // www.abbihearne.com

As I started writing our 2016 In Review post, I quickly realized I was going to have to dedicate that entire post to our personal/adventure photography because it was already long enough! So, I decided to do a separate "best of" post for our professional photography! Also, if you just read last week's post, you might think our lives are all play and no work which is definitely not true!

This year has been absolutely amazing for Abbi Hearne Photography! We grew in ways that I couldn't have possibly imagined this time last year. We've made incredible friends, worked with inspiring clients, and learned countless new skills that have improved our photography so much. We're so thrilled to have grown our photography around the western US, shooting engagements and anniversary sessions in amazing places, like Kristen + Eric's photos in Zion National Park, Katy + Andres' couples session in Joshua Tree National Park, and Sara + Jaimie's anniversary session in Yosemite National Park, just to name a few! We also shot a handful of weddings including Hunter +Michael's gorgeous garden wedding in Austin and Connie + Colton's perfectly romantic winter wedding last month. We met some great new friends, like Sylvan + Michelle, who jumped off a 400 foot cliff together moments after he proposed (!!!) and Clair + Alex, who come off as pretty edgy (pun intended, Clair is a professional BASE jumper) but are actually the biggest goofballs ever. We even did photos for some random strangers from Denmark, simply because they were there (and the session we had booked cancelled on us) so shout out to Amanda + Kristian for making my Banff dreams come true and running around Moraine Lake with us!

I could honestly go on for days about all the amazing people we've worked with and how much we've loved working on and growing this no-longer-so-little business over the past year, but I think it's best to just shut up and show you! So, without further adieu, the best of 2016:

Thank you all for an amazing year!! We are so excited to see where 2017 brings us!

connie + colton // romantic winter wedding // ingenhuett on high in comfort, texas

We had so much fun shooting Connie and Colton's gorgeous winter wedding in Comfort, Texas earlier this month! These two are some of the sweetest, most genuine people I've ever met. Connie was referred to me through some mutual friends and I remember the day we met just feeling like I had found a long lost friend! What began as a normal client consult ended up being a fun coffee date. We talked about everything from wedding details to marriage advice, pursuing dreams, and encouraging your spouse. It was so refreshing and I remember leaving thinking I couldn't wait to hang out with her again!

As expected, their wedding was incredible. A perfect balance of gorgeous details and their sweet personalities. They did an amazing job of honoring every guest and family member, while also making their wedding day reflect THEM. The look on Colton's face when he saw Connie coming down the aisle says it all, these two are so in love! We are so thankful they invited us to be their wedding photographers and we can't wait to hang out again (hopefully in the Pacific Northwest hey hey!!)

Fall Garden Party Wedding // Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center // Austin, Texas

I have put off writing this blog post for a few days because I truly do not know where to start. When Hunter first reached out to me about being her wedding photographer, referred by my best friend Kendall (Kenny I love you), I couldn't have anticipated how much I would absolutely love shooting their wedding. We started their wedding weekend nearly strangers, having only met once before, but by the time their ceremony rolled around on Sunday I found myself crying behind the camera for these amazing new friends! I know I always say this, but this wedding was a perfect example of why I love this job. We started the weekend with a Zombie-themed party and a gorgeous, intimate rehearsal dinner so by the time we got to the wedding we felt like part of the family.

They got married at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, a beautiful hill country gem full of various gardens, hidden pathways and a gorgeous courtyard that served as a perfect place for the long wooden reception tables and glowy string lights. Hunter did an amazing job with all the little details and her creativity absolutely blew me away. Her crown was worn by her grandmother on her wedding day 65 years ago, but Hunter made it her own with some wire and a few gorgeous stones. Instead of a traditional guest book, they set up a couch inside of a teepee with a go-pro on a tripod and had everyone record a short video giving advice, saying congratulations, or just being goofy. It was such a wonderful idea and I'm sure they'll cherish that video for years to come! Their wedding was a perfect mix of tradition and making it their own. One of my favorite things was their ceremony - instead of having a traditional officiant, they had their two sets of parents officiate the wedding ceremony. Each parent had a roll (saying a prayer, leading them through their vows, etc) and they all got to be deeply involved with the ceremony. It was incredibly touching! They had an array of talented friends doing music during the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. One of my favorite moments during the reception was when Michael, the groom, and the father of the bride joined the band playing their own instruments (saxophone for Michael and trumpet for father of the bride!), everyone was blown away!

As we drove home that night, feet aching and shoulders sore, we reflected on how incredible it is to get to be present for such a sacred day in people's lives. We talked about how our job allows us to observe so many families and communities and see how different they can be. We talked about how Hunter, Michael, and their two incredible families are the real deal, they love eachother deeply and truly, and we got to witness that three days in a row. Hunter and Michael, you two are incredible people and we are so thankful to have been a part of your wedding. You are amazing for eachother and you've got a killer community behind you. We can't wait to see where marriage takes you!
