backpacking near Fitz Roy in Patagonia | Camp Poincenot + Lago De Los Tres | adventure elopement inspiration

When we were in Patagonia, we met up with our friends Megan and Nate (you can find their website here) and some new friends Anni and Rich (Anni's website), both of which are fellow adventure elopement photographers. After spending a few days in El Chatlen exploring the town and soaking up the late summer sunsets, we all hiked up into the mountains for a closer look at the epic glaciers and jagged peaks of the Fitz Roy range. Anni and Rich had to get going, so they just day-hiked up to Lago de los Tres with us and had to head down before we went up to the lake for sunset. Megan and Nate were joining us for the next few days of backpacking through the forests below the mountains to explore some of the gorgeous high-alpine lakes. The first night, we camped at Camp Poincenot in the sturdy trees surrounded by colorful tents and excited trekkers.

We ended up arriving to camp pretty early, so we set up and took a little nap before hiking the final kilometer up to the lake for dinner and sunset. We were glad to have dropped off our camping gear the because the last bit of that hike was straight up, sometimes using our hands to scramble over giant blocks up the talus field. Once we finally came over a couple of false summits (🙄), we looked out at the perfectly blue lake with the epic peaks of the Fitz Traverse looming over it. We spent the next hour braving the wind, cooking some hot dinners, and Callen even motivated to inflate the packraft for a breezy float. The sunset was gorgeous and we had to tear ourselves away to finally head down during blue hour. The going down was much faster and we made it back to camp with just enough light to get settled, eat a candy bar (motivation) and turn in for the night. It was such an awesome hike, we’ll definitely make this one a “regular” with each visit back to Patagonia!

If you're considering eloping somewhere epic, this lake near El Chalten, Patagonia would be seriously amazing! It's up above tree line and has a crazy adventurous high-alpine feel, but is accessible as a day-hike or overnight backpacking hike, and has some of the best views of Fitz Roy! Contact us here is you'd like more info about eloping in Patagonia, we're available as early as January 2019 and can even help you plan your trip!
