morgan + jonathan's adventurous desert engagement session // sedona, arizona wedding photographer
If you've spent any time clicking around our website, you've probably noticed I use the term "adventure photographer" a lot. I've had a few different people ask me what I mean by that, and I think this engagement session in the snowy desert of Sedona describes it perfectly. Morgan and Jonathan were visiting from Texas and they figured they should take some epic engagement photos while they were up here in the beautiful Arizona desert (awesome idea!) so they reached out to us and we set up a session in Grand Canyon National Park.
Callen and I started heading to Arizona from southern California a few days before the session and began to get nervous about the weather forecast. It was predicting a huge snowstorm in northern Arizona and while we consider ourselves all-weather photographers, we didn't want to risk getting stuck in traffic on the main road in and out of the park! After talking with Morgan and Jonathan, we decided to move the session to Sedona, which was expected to get some snow but not as much and we knew it'd be easier to find an intimate, no-crowds location out there! Sure enough, the day Callen and I arrived we came across this amazing sandstone slab up above a valley completely surrounded by Sedona's stunning mesas. I texted a picture to Morgan and she was thrilled!
Leading up to the session, the weather threatened snow, then cold rain and solid clouds. We ran up to the location the morning of and ended up in a near white-out snow storm, which left me feeling worried about our afternoon session. We said a quick prayer for clear skies and headed to Starbucks to warm up and meet Morgan and Jonathan! By the time they arrived in Sedona, the clouds has mostly cleared and the sun was shining, but it was still a chilly 38 degrees. Thankfully, Morgan was a total trooper and rocked that gorgeous yellow dress the whole session! It looked so perfect with the desert color scheme and I can't get over how well she handled the cold wind! It was definitely worth it, these are some of my favorite photos we've taken. This is why we consider ourselves "adventure photographers."
