Meet your Alaska-local elopement photographers

Hi! We’re Abbi & Callen Hearne, part-time Alaskans with a true dream job: helping couples have the most incredible adventure elopement (or photo session!) in the Alaskan wilderness. While we live in Moab, Utah most of the year, we’ve been spending every summer in Alaska since 2018. The first five summers, we drove up here in our camper and lived on the road. Eventually, it came time to make things official and we found the perfect log cabin in southcentral Alaska near our favorite glaciers, mountain hikes, and airports for backcountry access.

We spend most of our free time adventuring out here the true Alaskan way; by plane or helicopter, train, boat, or on foot. We love to packraft with icebergs, fly into the backcountry, hop on the Alaska Railroad, trek onto the glaciers, or take our little jetboat up the many braided rivers.

With these adventures, we’re always thinking of new ideas for elopements, finding remote locations, and gaining more experience to show up with when planning your elopement. When we’re coordinating location and adventure ideas with you in the months leading up to the big day(s), we’re pulling from real-life experience instead of guessing based on a google search. Alaska is a wild place and is still relatively uncharted compared to more popular destinations in the lower 48. Local knowledge and experience goes a long way when it comes to planning a stress-free, epic elopement with plenty of back-up options.

When your elopement finally arrives, we’re checking weather forecasts and watching the skies from home, always ready to make last-minute adjustments or suggestions as needed. We’ve lent jackets from our own closet, had couples ship items straight to our house, and even helped with lodging when things fell through last-minute. We feel at home here and that means you’ll feel “at home” too when you’re working with us in this wild, remote place.

Packrafting Elopements

One of our most well-known, iconic elopement styles in Alaska is packrafting with icebergs. This is no suprise because it’s easily one of our favorite personal adventures in Alaska too!

We have a few locations that we know are best for packrafting with icebergs in Alaska. They are all remote and are accessed in a variety of ways including helicopter, boat taxi, or the historic Alaskan Railroad.

While packrafting (and the photos) usually ends up being our couples’ favorite part of their Alaska elopement day, we always plan for plenty of time on land as well for a private ceremony, portraits, and epic views.

Eloping on a glacier

Alaska is famous for it’s endless glacial valleys, but did you know the majority of them are remote and there are pretty much zero glaciers that are easy to access? Glaciers can also be incredibly dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing, which is why it’s important to go with someone who has experience and feels comfortable in the glacial landscape.

Some tour companies will take anyone out and drop them off, but we’ve seen too many sketchy landings and questionable scenarios to count. After years of experience trekking, climbing, and packrafting on glaciers in Alaska, we know the best places to land for photos and for a fun, adventurous, stress-free experience whether you’re a seasoned glacial explorer or it’s your first time stepping foot on the ice.

Helicopter elopements

Our love of aviation runs deep and it definitely took off when we started spending time in Alaska. A pilot’s license is about as common as a driver’s license up here but that doesn’t mean you should trust just anyone to fly you. With our years of experience flying in Alaska, we’ve built a not-so-long list of pilots we trust to fly us into these remote backcountry locations.

Working with a helicopter (or ski plane, or float plane, or bush plane…) can really open up the Alaskan wilderness and offer you a huge variety of landscapes within just a few hours. We often land in multiple locations in one day including on a glacier, on top of a mountain in the high alpine, on the shore of a iceberg lake, or right at the base of a waterfall. The options are endless when you take to the skies out here!
