Ashlee & JJ's Helicopter Elopement | Kayaking with Icebergs in Alaska

Ashlee and JJ’s elopement was truly one of those days filled with constant laughter, wonder, and pure Alaskan adventure. When we were planning their elopement, they wanted their wedding day to feel like their favorite days together; making fun memories, exploring new places, and having a grand adventure. Alaska was the obvious choice and they knew immediately they wanted to get close to the adventure with the icebergs so we recommended this lake in Kenai Fjords National Park where we knew we could plan the day to allow plenty of time for adventure! We brought along our own packrafts for them to paddle around in and we had such a special time out there with them. We felt like instant friends the moment we met up in Seward, which is good because getting dropped off on the shore of a lake in the middle of nowhere is a pretty intimate experience that could have been pretty awkward if we didn’t get along :)
We hired a local helicopter charter to take us out to this lake, one we’ve been to personally a number of times (very important when exploring in such remote areas!), and drop us off for a few hours in the afternoon. We brought snacks and beverages, and good music (downloaded offline — no LTE service out there!). We went in with a rough plan and a few ideas of what to do, but had plenty of time to follow the adventure and be flexible with what they felt like doing in the moment. The weather was gorgeous and moody, we waved at every passing aircraft (Alaska af), they danced in the tundra, and we paddled with the icebergs for hours!
