Iceland Adventure Session

We met Grace and Austin on our first trip to Alaska two years ago, and they pretty much immediately became life-long friends. We love these two so much and seriously can’t imagine our life without them at this point. We met as strangers camping in their driveway when we couldn’t find anywhere to camp near Anchorage, and I connected with Grace through a photographers group because they’re also adventure wedding photographers (The Adams Co)! We pulled up to their driveway and met them right there, totally normal van life scenario :) We ended up ordering pizza and staying up way too late talking around their kitchen table, and the next morning we took them rock climbing for the first time! We spent a bunch of time with them in Alaska last summer too, and one day Grace texted me “hey, want to go to Iceland with us in September?” My immediate reaction was, we definitely can’t do that. Fall is our busy season and in September we’d be driving back to the lower 48 from Alaska, we already had gigs in Wyoming and Idaho, and then the first of October was our busy busy season in Yosemite. But then we looked at flights…and looked at the calendar…and realized, we could *technically* make it happen. So we did :) And it was exhausting, but we have no regrets!!

With our schedule we actually ended up going to Iceland before the Alaskan friends arrived, and we only spent a few days overlapped but it was still such a blast! Callen and I tried to drive and see as much as we possibly could in the course of 5 days, so we ended up going all the way to the north shore and then skirted the east shore down to the southern part of the island where we hung out with the Alaskan crew! We soaked in hotsprings, hiked to some epic waterfalls, and then explored a glacier lagoon. Austin even got all the way in the water…wild! Considering we’re both photographers, we thought it would be fun to trade photo sessions so we could each come home with some nice photos in Iceland! It was really fun, Grace and I actually shared a skirt so we were changing and switching everything up behind beached icebergs, such a fun memory!

One of our favorite parts about Iceland was the easy access to glaciers, ice climbing, and iceberg lagoons to paddle around in! Callen and I love glacial landscapes so much, and Callen is obsessed with hot springs, so we’ve always known we’d love it here when we finally visited! I’m so glad we got to experience it with our friends and we already can’t wait to go back!

If you’re interested in eloping in Iceland, we’re planning to go in July 2021, on our way to Greenland from the Alps. It would be so fun to meet up with someone out there for their elopement, especially if you’re interested in places that are more off the beaten path — we don’t really love the touristy areas, but we found so many epic places that had no people around and we’d never seen photos of before! There is so much to explore in Iceland!
