Family Photos of our friends The Minors | Life on the Road in Alaska | Overlanding Custom Truck + Ural

Oh my goodness, where do I even start with our friends the Minors? If you had told us four years ago that one day we’d be camped on top of a mountain in Alaska in an epic truck next to the Minors, also in an epic truck, with their kiddo Gipsy…I probably would have lost my mind. We used to be neighbors in The Woodlands (a suburb outside of Houston) and Matt + Callen played in the Mark Swayze Band together for 8 years. But our history goes back even farther than that. Callen’s family has know the Minor family for years, and I actually used to follow Matt and Kristen’s blog, Bugs on my Face, religiously before I even met Callen! I have looked up to Matt and Kris for years and have always been inspired by their wild adventures. I can still remember the headspace I had as a 16-year-old, following their blog and never even imagining my life would look similar one day.

Unsurprisingly, we always felt super drawn to each other when they were playing in the band, and we all grew really close when living in The Woodlands. I remember skating over to their house multiple times a week just to sit and hang out, going on hikes in the forest, photo adventures, slack lining, lunch dates. They were the first ones we told when we made the hard decision to hit the road full time and leave The Woodlands, and they supported us through the whole process. They even helped us move out of our apartment and into our tiny tiny tiny first camper.

A year or so later, I remember when Kristen texted me that they were moving forward with adopting Gipsy. I was sitting in El Cap Meadow while Callen climbed with some friends, and I cried happy tears for them immediately. It was a long process, but it brought us to this moment — all of us camping and adventuring together in Alaska! What a wild ride. Needless to say, we want to take an evening to take some photos of their little family in their giant truck (tiny home…) and with their rad Ural Motorcycle! They worked hard for months building this gorgeous truck into a home, Kristen even made custom drawer pulls with turquoise an brass (oh yeah, she’s a jewelry maker too!).

The Hearnes Adventure Photography is run by Abbi and Callen Hearne, a husband & wife wedding photography team with an emphasis on adventure. They live on the road as full-time nomads, allowing them to serve a large portion of the western US. You can typically find them in Moab, Utah or Yosemite National Park, California, with side-quests to Patagonia and Alaska. They believe love is the greatest adventure and strive to create photos that are epic, romantic, true, and timeless.
