Jamaal + Schadell’s Sunset Engagement Session in Moab | Utah Desert Wedding Inspiration | Rue de Seine Dallas Gown & Parisian Veil

If you’ve been keeping up with our blog and instagram posts, you probably saw Schadell and Jamaal’s suprise proposal in Canyonlands National Park! We had set up a “styled shoot” that Schadell thought they were just modeling for, but then Jamaal surprised her and popped the question right as the sun came up over the canyons! It was absolutely stunning and so much fun. One detail that made it so much more special was that Rue de Seine sent us two beautiful sample wedding gowns for Schadell to wear. We picked the East gown for their sunrise session because it was Schadell’s favorite of the two, but we decided to do a sunset session in a totally different location for the Dallas Gown! This ended up being one of my favorite sessions yet, not only because of the wildly gorgeous dress and couple, but also because they were so damn happy! And we’d already done the session we “needed” to do that morning, so this sunset session was low pressure and I got to be super creative with it, right down to choosing the location!

This location isn’t what you’d usually think of when coming to Moab. It isn’t the classic red rock, or towering arches, or deep canyons, but I one thing I absolutely love about Moab is how unique and dynamic it is and how different the area around you looks after each turn! I have been spending this spring season exploring as much as possible in my Jeep, and while I’ve definitely found myself on some rowdy roads and in wild places, the pay off is so huge when I find a hidden gem like this. I was stoked Schadell and Jamaal were down to go off the beaten path a bit and do their sunset session out here!

The whole day was a bit overcast (after the epic sunrise that is) but I know Moab well enough at this point to know you can never predict what sunset will be like. The clouds change so often here, especially in the hour before sunset, so it’s always best to just be ready and know it could change wildly in those final few minutes, which is exactly what it did this day! Once the sun sunk below the cloud layer way in the distance, everything brightened up and the light was absolutely stunning. It was extra strange because we watched a rainstorm blow through town less than 20 miles from us, but all we encountered was epic sunshine and then the most beautiful sunset on the La Sal Mountains in the distance!! It was the perfect way to end such an amazing day.
